YOU, WHO?

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else, is your greatest accomplishment.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s okay to get lost, it’s okay to feel confused. It’s okay to feel so weak that you cry yourself to sleep. It’s okay to keep things inside you, if you think you can deal with it on your own and heal yourself. It’s okay to feel like a complete loser sometimes, so much so that you’re certain that you’ll never win again.

Because after that, you’re only winning.

Two words- Be you. We’ve heard it a lot, right? It’s everywhere. Especially on the internet, the infamous social media, on the picture captions of exalted influencers, posing in lousy home clothes rather than an expensive jumpsuit. ‘yOu Go gUrL.’

And so, five more words- It’s easier said than done. In a world where there is a plethora of standard societal ideals and expectations, one is bound to feel an urge to chase cars that never stop, just so someone tells us that hey, you’re good enough. You are something, you mean something, both in your personal and professional life. I know, it’s difficult to speak your heart out without being hurled at, to do what you love without being judged or looked down upon. That’s why you’re so cautious of yourself. That’s why you’d rather apologize than protect your dignity, your beliefs. Some will say this is absolutely cowardly, an attempt to mask escapism, but hey, what is it that people don’t say? They always will!

If you’re relating to this, then you’re much like me, and what I’m writing right now is a message to you, as much as it is to myself.

Feel free to give as much love as you can, but don’t chastise yourself if someone hurts you. Know that you might not be the world’s best preacher like they are, but also know that you don’t need to preach at all, if you think they don’t want to assimilate. Be proud of your own growth, however slow or however small it may have been. Accept your failures, your flaws, but don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t deserve something that you have or want to have. Listen to their stories, but remember reading your own story right before you go to sleep, every single day.

And so, now you know, simply posing in your home clothes rather than a shiny outfit does not qualify as “being you”. Lots to say.
