YOU, WHO?

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else, is your greatest accomplishment.”-Ralph Waldo Emerson   It’s okay to get lost, it’s okay to feel confused. It’s okay to feel so weak that you cry yourself to sleep. It’s okay to keep things inside you, if you think you can deal with it on your own and heal yourself. It’s okay to feel like a complete loser sometimes, so much so that you’re certain that you’ll never win again. Because after that, you’re only winning. Two words- Be you. We’ve heard it a lot, right? It’s everywhere. Especially on the internet, the infamous social media, on the picture captions of exalted influencers, posing in lousy home clothes rather than an expensive jumpsuit. ‘yOu Go gUrL.’ And so, five more words- It’s easier said than done. In a world where there is a plethora of standard societal ideals and expectations, one is bound to feel an urge to chase cars that never stop, just so someone tells us that hey, you’re...

The 'F' word

The way that ideas are spread nowadays is not the problem, it’s the way they’re assimilated. So is this word, which follows you around like a trending hashtag, little bit of this here, little bit of that there. Yes, the word is “feminism”. I can almost see half of the crowd mouthing “Ugh, not again.”, and that is an exhibit of how unfortunately misinterpreted the whole idea behind the word is. It has been now included in the list of the most famous “isms” that people either debate about without concluding, or be indifferent about without introspecting.  Fact of the matter? Yes it deserves your attention now more than ever. I’m not going to start naming the things that women have been facing since time immemorial. We’re all very much aware of all that. And we’re the first ones to change channels when there’s a disturbing report about a rape, assault, or acid-attack case on the television, because we'd rather spent the day in indifference than in worry.  It...

Not so cool,ese!

Like many other unsolved mysteries in this world, one that leaves me the most exasperated, is why my generation, the “genX’ers”,the “millenials”,or however you may like to address them, feels entitled enough to be in complete denial that they are,in fact, not entitled at all. Now there are enough testimonies to the fact that not everyone in my generation is the same way, but enough of them are. Enough for creating an immensely fallacious reputation for ourselves. Enough for this issue becoming important to be addressed. Just enough, for our actions becoming important to be called out.  Let me add a little context to this.  Quarantine period called for schools as well as universities to resort to taking online classes on the ‘zoom’ app, fair enough. Now hey, let’s not pretend that any of us were taking those classes seriously, no matter how exciting it may have seemed initially. Anything which does not suit the likes of us, gets dissed by us. And so, crashing a frie...
